The holiday season is a great time of year to engage in some energy efficient activities with your family. And what exactly are energy efficient activities? We’re glad you asked!
1. Energy Efficient Games
Puzzles, board games, crosswords—all examples of activities that can be done together as a family and are energy efficient, too! No game consoles, tablets, computers or TVs are involved, so not only are you saving energy, but you’re also increasing time spent with the family!
2. Make a Scrapbook
Forget Facebook – this is the real thing! Collect all your old photos, favorite articles, quotes, etc., and paste them into a scrapbook. Unlike Facebook, your real-life scrapbook will never be deleted or use a lot of energy (other than what your body supplies) to put together. A great, energy efficient activity that helps you to preserve all your countless memories!
3. Discover the Great Outdoors!
What’s better than getting everyone together and heading outside for some good old-fashioned family fun! Go for hikes, organize skating parties (if you live in an area that gets snow in winter), explore your neighborhood, or meet up with friends and neighbors to discover local landmarks and places of interest. Getting outside means exercising your mind and body and not your utility bill!
4. Family Bake-off
If you’re aiming to please those with a sweet tooth, organize a bake-off competition with your kids! Make it energy efficient by baking as many dishes as possible at the same time. Doing this is more energy efficient than turning your oven off and on several times. Once everything has been baked and the winner – if there is one – declared, freeze the leftovers. A full freezer runs more efficiently than an empty one.
