Q: What is special about a HERS® Rated home?
A: Lindsay: HERS-rated homes give you two big things, high levels of comfort in your homes, and lower costs. The combination sets you and your family up to enjoy living in your home with less money.
Q: Why should consumers ask for the HERS® Index Score on homes they are shopping for?
A: Lindsay: The beauty of a HERS score as a consumer is that it gives you a look at what you cannot see. When you look at a home, it is the sum of all of its inputs, and once the sheetrock is on, it is hard to know what was done to make one home more substantial than another. A HERS score begins to help you understand what the value of your home is beyond just the measure of a cost per square foot. The analogy I always give is that you don’t walk into a dealership and ask, “What is the going rate for a car?” it all depends on which one you want and what features you want. A home is no different, and the HERS score begins to give you the information you need as a consumer to really understand what you are buying.
Q: Why does FTD Homes choose to have their homes HERS® Rated?
A: Lindsay: We have chosen to have our homes HERS-rated because it is important for our clients to have an easy way to understand what the return on investment is on the actual envelope and build the quality of the home. It helps our clients better understand what to expect out of their homes in the future.
Q: Why consumers should expect energy-efficient homes?
A: Lindsay: Consumers should expect a lower energy bill, but more than anything, the comfort level in their homes is huge. We use the Rheia ducting system, creating balanced heating and cooling which makes such a big difference in the livability of the home.
Q: How many homes does FTD Homes build with HERS® per year?
A: Lindsay: We are committed to a HERS rating on all of our homes.
Q: How do you market HERS® Rated homes?
A: Lindsay: We market the standards that come from a HERS-rated home. In our market [Amarillo, TX] it is new and the public doesn’t know much about it so we focus on the benefits they will feel and then educate the score and rating ranges on the backend.
Q: How do your customers feel about HERS® Rated homes?
A: Lindsay: A number of our clients have chosen us as builders due to our priority of energy efficiency.
