Q: What is special about a HERS® Rated home?
A: Charlotte: A HERS® rating allows us to gauge our level of energy performance against the building code requirements. We provide our clients with this third-party documentation that shows that their homes will outperform the industry standards by about 50%.
Q: Why should consumers ask for the HERS® Index Score on homes they are shopping for?
A: Charlotte: A HERS® rating has a direct impact on the overall cost of home ownership. We feel the long-term cost of home ownership is of more importance than the first cost. The HERS® rating demonstrates how their home will perform. Every buyer should be aware of HERS® ratings and request the results before buying a new home.
Q: Why does Musser Home Builders choose to have their homes HERS® Rated?
A: Charlotte: We choose to use a HERS® rating so we can get a comprehensive analysis of our homes’ overall performance. It doesn’t just look at the individual components, but it evaluates how the entire home will perform.
Q: Why consumers should expect energy-efficient homes?
A: Charlotte: Energy consumption is the most significant long-term cost in home ownership. Building science has given us the tools to design and build high-performance homes. We feel it’s irresponsible just to build to meet minimum standards when we have the knowledge, experience, and ability to surpass those standards.
Q: How many homes does Musser Home Builders build with HERS® per year?
A: Charlotte: We provide a HERS® rating on all of our new homes. We build about 10 custom Homes per year.
Q: How do you market HERS® Rated homes?
A: Charlotte: We show past HERS® ratings to our new clients to give them confidence in our experience. We stress the importance of understanding thermal performance, energy modeling, and testing. We give the HERS® results to our clients upon completion of their homes. The majority of our work is the direct result of our happy clients. This attention to quality makes it natural for our clients to recommend us to their friends and family.
Q: How do your customers feel about HERS® Rated homes?
A: Charlotte: Our clients LOVE their HERS® rated homes. We often get feedback about the indoor comfort and low energy bills that they experience.
